Yesterday was not a good day. The SCOTUS decision was expected but that doesn’t make the fear, anger, and dread any less overwhelming.
I can almost guarantee that you know someone who’s had an abortion — 1 in 4 Americans have had one. Access to safe reproductive health care is a human right and taking away abortion access affects everyone. Banning abortions won’t stop them from happening — it will only stop them from being safe. Men: access to safe abortions affects you too. Now’s the time to express your full and vocal support of abortion rights.
Last month, I raised money for the National Network of Abortion funds, and via friends, family, and even a few strangers, we raised $1900 — money that will help remove the financial barriers to abortions around the country.
But with this SCOTUS decision, abortion funds will need even more help to provide financial and logistical support for people who need access to abortions, especially in states where trigger laws have already ceased abortions based on this decision.
It’s heartbreaking and scary to live in a country where my body and the reproductive choices I make are under threat. I’m tired of constantly having to explain that my rights matter.
It’s very easy to feel despair and lose hope, and it’s even easier to just stop caring. And often I think — what’s the point? But we don’t have a choice but to keep going: for ourselves and for future generations. There’s so much work to be done to build the America we want, and right now, abortion funds need our help.
